Strata

It’s neither above nor below that the truly interesting things happen
But rather in between, in the midst of cotton strata
Solid as air and soft as slate
Worlds turned to grayscale, vibrant as monochrome diversity

It occurs to him that it is not color or variety that defies description
Instead it is the subtle sameness of clouds from the inside
Look above or below and all is different
Textured and smooth, sharp and lackluster
Though it is all the same, difference abounds
Despite his inability to express it in words.
