I’ve been waiting for that perfect gadget. Something halfway
between a laptop and a PDA that wouldn’t cost me more than a new
PC. Well, Nokia comes damn close with their new 770.
…it relies on its Bluetooth v1.2 and WiFi (802.11b) support to connect
to the Internet either through your home WiFi router or via your
Bluetooth compatible mobile phone. Nokia envisions the 770 as an
inexpensive (about US$350) and convenient replacement for the 2nd or
3rd PC a family might have at home. It is the kind of device that you
leave on the coffee table or on the night stand next to your bed. When
you need to check your email or do a quick Internet search, you just
power it on instantly (like a PDA) and have at it.
There it is folks. Someone who uderstands my geek needs. Read the whole review. The specs are tantilizing to say the least. I’ll be watching to see how these pan out. And remember, only 7 months til Christmas. I know you will all be taking up a collection to purchase one for me.
Oh my my… Oh hell yes. Where do I sign up?
Some conflicting stats and a bad review
Well, Google News spits up two articles from today on this fellow. infoSync World
has a down and dirty review of the device with some conflicting data in
ti (b/g wireless instead of just b, and no confirmation of
price). And it seems that PC World is a bit skittish on the whole idea.
Personally,
I think they are just feeling burned by past failures. I love the
fact that its built on Linux. Once folks start to use it, the
serious bit heads will come up with a million add ons. It’ll be
controlling media PCs and other household functions in no time.
